Tidepools Aquarium is Hiring!
Presented by Johan Stroman and three Teachers from School District 46: Peter Metcalfe, Simon Hocking, Kassandra Parker
On September 20-21 2024, over 300 people attended the first ever Climate Faire on the Sunshine Coast, including a powerful kickoff video from Dr. Katharine Hayhoe, 15 exhibitors, and 20 panelists. Those attending were keen to do more to reduce their climate footprint and increase their resilience to extreme events like droughts, fires, and floods.
So BlueAct Marine Society has organized a series of nine evening presentations in 2025 to help you do just that. All of the presenters are experts in their fields and compelling speakers. Admission to these events is by donation, helping us keep them accessible to everyone. You can choose to donate during registration or in person with cash on the day of the event. Any donation is deeply appreciated and supports us in continuing to offer these wonderful events. Join us to change ideas into action and learn practical ways you can make a difference in our community.
The Climate Action Speaker Series returns this featuring four dynamic presentations that explore how everyday choices around food, transportation, and local planning can support a healthier planet and community. Don’t miss the screening of Incandescence — an award-winning documentary capturing the human and environmental toll of Okanagan wildfires through powerful footage and personal stories.
Let’s take climate action together.

Transportation is one of the largest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions, but local initiatives are showing what’s possible. This session will highlight efforts to encourage active travel, expand public transit, and promote more sustainable choices across our communities. Speakers will share perspectives on regional goals, infrastructure improvements, and opportunities for individuals and organizations to lower their transportation footprint.
Incandescence | Documentary, 2024
From award-winning filmmakers Nova Ami & Velcrow Ripper (website), capturing an Okanagan wildfire through immersive footage and personal stories.
Wildfires are burning with increasing intensity around the world. Following the rhythms of the seasons, Nova Ami and Velcrow Ripper’s Incandescence is an immersive cinematic experience, weaving on-the-ground footage with extraordinary stories of survival and adaptation that transform our understanding of wildfire. The film takes shape from the ancient patterns embodied in fire: destruction, aftermath and rebirth. From the flightpath of bees to an osprey’s aerial perspective, floating over the landscape: the Earth comes back. This film is provided courtesy of the National Film Board of Canada
A Q&A with filmmakers Nova Ami and Velcrow Ripper will follow the screening, joined by David McIlwraith from FireSmart BC.
To secure your spot, please register by 10PM the night before each event. For late registrations, email us at info@blueact.org with your name and number of tickets requested.
